The mission of Flathead Electric Cooperative, a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, is to provide competitive and reliable services, achieve the highest level of member satisfaction, and enhance the quality of life in our communities. We are driven by community, innovation, and reliability.

In 1974 Dorothy Fisher, Betty Brass, Barbara Altig and Glena Schaefer inherited their mother, Blanch Maxine Tonner's clothing store, Tonner's Toggery. Tonner's Toggery was built during the construction and boom years of the Hungry Horse Dam. Four years later, in 1979, the four sisters decided to rent out the Tonner's Toggery building to Dorothy Fisher's daughter Patsy and her husband Gilbert Washburn. Along with their partners, Russ and Bobby Walter, they started the Trapline Lumber Company. The lumber business grew quickly and eventually evolved into a lumber yard and a Second Hand Store along Highway 2 between Martin City and Hungry Horse, Montana. Eventually the Walter family decided to leave the business and Gilbert and Patsy took sole ownership of the small company. Later, the Washburn's decided to quit the lumber business and moved their Second Hand Store to Columbia Falls under the name of Gil's Store. Over time Gil's Store added more furniture to their second hand selection. With the new additions of furniture and mattresses Gil's Store outgrew its Columbia Falls location. In search of more space, Gilbert and Patsy found a location with a larger warehouse along Highway 40 between Whitefish and Columbia Falls. Business was good, and Gil's was becoming a household name. In the summer of 1992 Gil's Store burned down due to an electrical fire and the entire building and inventory were lost. By winter of the same year, with hard work and perseverance, Gil and Patsy rebuilt and restocked. The next few years Gil's belief in offering his customers the same quality of furniture for less, paid off. With the business doing well and the Flathead Valley growing Gil and Patsy decided to purchase the adjacent property east of them and built Gil's Store as we know it today. Gil's Store continues to do business in the same location on Highway 40 between Whitefish and Columbia Falls. And Gil's continues to value it's customers, offering name brand furniture and mattresses for less. Gil's got it.
