So you want to be a Montana Lacrosse official? Great! Here’s what you need to do:
1) REGISTER - Twice!
- Register with Montana Lacrosse Officials Association - email mloatrainer@gmail.com
- Send us an email with your age, location and summary of Lacrosse and or officiating experience.
- You do not need experience to become an official. It sure helps, but there are many ways to learn how to officiate lacrosse.
- Adults and youth 14 years of age and older can become lacrosse officials. (Youth officials are assigned to younger age group games).
- There is no fee to register with the Montana LOA.
- Register with US Lacrosse at uslacrosse.org
- Select "Official" from the available membership types.
- Select "Montana Lacrosse Official's Association" as your local affiliate organization.
- For US Lacrosse membership, go to www.uslacrosse.org and sign up as an “Official” or a “Cross Participant.” (Cross participants are those who play, coach, and ref.)
- An adult Official membership is $50 a year, while most coaches and players can upgrade for $15 to $20 a year in addition to their other registration. Call U.S. Lacrosse (410) 235-6882 #102 if you are having trouble.
2) Complete the online assignments (courses, videos)

3) Set-up your Arbiter profile and blocks
a) Go to arbitersports.com and set up an account.
b) Once you have an account, let us know and we will provide instructions for next steps. Email mloatrainer@gmail.com.
4) Attend
a) One CLASSROOM TRAINING
b) One ON-FIELD CLINIC
These trainings and clinics will be held across the state. Email
for more dates and places!
5) PASS the US Lacrosse online TEST (Score 80% or higher)
6) Purchase your ref gear. Here are the gear guidelines:

You also get paid $60 as a startup reimbursement after you ref 6 games!
- Driving Reimbursement
- Any official who must travel a distance greater than 25 miles one way will receive a gas per diem of $.25 for the pre-determined round trip mileage which will be paid for by the home team which will be reflected in their officials fee invoice.
